A Series Reactor is connected to a power line or circuit. It is primarily used to limit short-circuit currents and manage power flows in electrical networks. In the event of a fault, such as a short circuit, the current can quickly become excessively high, posing a risk to components and system stability. A series reactor impedes the flow of these high fault currents, reducing the short-circuit current to a manageable level. It can also help compensate for reactive power imbalances in the system where inductive reactance is provided to counteract the effects of capacitive loads, thus stabilizing voltage levels.
